New machine increases Sea-Fresh range capabilities

Dri-Fresh Sea-Fresh liners for seafood transportation

Sirane has expanded its range of absorbents liners for packaging seafood thanks to a new machine significantly speeding up and streamlining the production process.

Sirane’s Dri-Fresh Sea-Fresh range of absorbent liners quickly and effectively absorbs the melting ice and juices released during transportation. The liquid is absorbed and trapped inside the Sea-Fresh liner to prevent spillage and reduce odour.

The machine – designed and built by Sirane’s in-house engineering team – will allow for far greater flexibility in the range, with almost any size or absorbency now available.

Jeremy Haydn-Davies, sales director for food packaging, said: “Our new machine for Sea-Fresh liners will make us very competitive, and this new pricing combined with our reputation for quality absorbent products should generate a lot of interest.

“Sea-Fresh liners are terrific for lining crates of fish, soaking up large amounts of water and fluid from the crates, meaning it arrives at the destination in a much better state.

“The cold crate packed with seafood will remain cold and dry, optimising the condition and appearance – and in many cases the value or saleability - of the fish.”

Ian Beardsall, director of product & process development, said: “The machine has tremendous flexibility, and is very fast, which has helped us become very competitive.

“We can produce exactly what the customer wants at an attractive price. Not only that but we can offer extremely high levels of absorbency which are great for seafood.”

Sirane will be exhibiting at the European Seafood Expo in Brussels from April 23rd to 25th and can be found at Stand 4-5838. Email jeremy.haydn-davies@sirane.com for an appointment.

Other seafood-based products include self-seal cooking bags perfect for steam cooking fish in an oven or microwave, our innovative dual-compartment Smart-Release bag allowing an infusion of fish and sauce in a microwave, and our new barbecue bag.

Sirane recently returned from a very successful first visit to the Boston Seafood Show in the US, where the industry showed a great appetite for the company’s products.

Thinking-Cooking range on show at the NEC

Thinking-Cooking – the new retail range from innovative food packaging company Sirane – will be exhibiting at the Farm Shop & Deli Show at the NEC in April.

The Thinking-Cooking range has been developed to allow home users to buy innovative cooking products direct, and to allow retailers to add value to their sales.

The range features the popular Si-bag Meal-Maker – which has been sold direct to the public for a while – alongside the Baby & Toddler Meal-Pouch, Fat-Trap, Roasting Bags, Potato-Bakers, Shelf-Life Bags, Deli-Bags, and Slow-Cooker Liners.

“Our Thinking-Cooking range will fit perfectly with what many farm shops and delicatessens are currently offering,” said Ruth Mason, sales executive for Thinking-Cooking. “The range could be a great item to sit next to the counter – but could also be used by retailers to send customers home with food in packaging that is ready to cook.

“A farm shop selling turkeys, for example, could sell Thinking-Cooking Roasting Bags alongside the turkeys – or add value to sales by selling the turkeys in a ready-to-cook bag.

“The same could apply to the Si-bag Meal-Maker – it could be a stand-alone product or used to sell meals, side dishes and desserts in a format that is ready to oven or microwave.”

All items will either reduce cooking times, cleaning times, or the amount of food wasted and thrown out, as well as allowing for healthier food in a simple, convenient way.

“Thinking-Cooking has brought to the kitchen table a number of items which will truly make people’s life easier,” said Ruth. “People will wonder how they ever did without.”

“This range of products is about convenience, simplicity, taste and cutting waste. Whether it is cutting energy bills because your oven is on for an hour less, or cutting down on the washing up, Thinking-Cooking has thought about what will help.

“People lead busy lives, but still want good food. Money is tight in many families, so they want food to last. Thinking-Cooking has looked at problems and found solutions.

“They are also healthy solutions, cooking bags for example help significantly with portion control, Fat-Traps will reduce the amount of fat with items such as sausages.

“Steam cooking can also be a requirement for medical reasons, but being able to find a cooking bag that will still leave the user with a tasty meal has not always been easy.

“We’ll also soon be adding a new product to the range – a barbecue bag which allows meat, poultry, seafood or vegetables to be sold with a marinade or sauce in a bag that the customer can throw straight on the barbecue – or in the oven if the weather turns.”

The Si-bag Meal-Maker is an ovenable or microwaveable cooking bag, which seals in all the juices and flavours and allows healthy eating and fast food to be combined. The Baby & Toddler Meal Pouch will similarly allow healthy food to be cooked fast.

Thinking-Cooking Roasting Bags are available for both turkeys and chickens, and will crisp up the bird perfectly, stop it from drying out, and significantly reduce the cooking time.

Fat-Traps can be used on oven-grills to soak up the fat – healthier food and less cleaning – while Slow-Cooker Liners will also cut down on the hated washing-up.

Fresh: Shelf-Life Bags and Fresh: Deli-Bags will offer significant shelf-life extension, with the Shelf-Life Bags – available in two sizes - suitable for all fresh produce.

Ruth added: “Trials of the Shelf-Life Bags in a commercial environment has shown some astonishing results – shelf-life extension of five days or more. So we thought why not sell the bags directly to home-users, so they can put their own fruit or veg in.”

The bags can be used not only for fresh produce but also for prepared vegetables.
