‘EARTH packaging’ and innovative cooking bags both proved big hits at Packaging Innovations 2018 as Sirane enjoyed one of its busiest ever trade shows.
Sirane launched Earth Packaging – our range of environmentally friendly food packaging solutions including the first plastic-free compostable food pouch.
And with a multi-compartment cooking bag in the show’s Innovation Showcase top 10, it meant a very busy few days at the NEC for the Sirane team.
Jeremy Haydn-Davies, sales director, said: “Packaging Innovations has always been a good show for Sirane, and this was probably our most successful to date.
“Environmentally-friendly packaging solutions seemed to be the words on everyone’s lips, and that’s an area we had plenty to talk to people about – with our compostable pads, breathable bags and films and of course the new Earthpouch.”
Earthpouch – the first plastic-free compostable food pouch – was a definite crowd-pleaser at the NEC, following a successful first product launch earlier this year.
Sirane’s Earthpouch was a couple of years in development, and Troofoods launched in the new year, using the packaging for their range of granola products.
Peter Ralten, from B&G – Sirane’s partners for this product - said: “Over the last few years food brands and retailers have asked us to come up with an affordable recyclable pouch solution – and the show generated huge interest.
“Beside the fact that the Earthpouch can be recycled with paper it is also compostable. B&G waited to take a solution to the market that is affordable. We were delighted that Troo have decided to pack their fantastic product in the Earthpouch – and hopefully many more companies will now follow suit.”
The Earthpouch – an industry first - is made from a paper with a 100% plastic free heat-sealable coating which is then formed into a preformed stand-up pouch which provides total food security for dry and moist food products.
It formed one of the products in Sirane’s Earth Packaging range on display at the show – compostable food packaging solutions that won’t ‘cost the earth’.
Sirane’s compostable Earth Packaging solutions can really help you boost your green credentials by cutting both packaging waste and food waste.
Simon Balderson, Sirane MD, said: “Environmentally-friendly packaging is in the news – particularly following Iceland’s recent ‘plastic free’ commitment – and products like the Earthpouch are exactly the sort of thing the industry needs right now.
“It is possible – as the Earthpouch proves - to supply packaging solutions which are effective but also 100% compostable. Plastic isn’t the only way.”
Compostable food packaging from Sirane also includes our breathable bags and films for extending the life of fresh produce. Sira-Flex Resolve is a natural biopolymer which we can make into bags or films, and which can extend shelf-life by many days.
Other compostable products include our absorbent pads for meat, poultry, seafood and fruit. Many of our Dri-Fresh absorbent products can be offered in compostable form – under the name Dri-Fresh Resolve; for Sirane Resolve = compostable.
Sirane’s steam-cooking bags also proved popular – perhaps no surprise with one innovative bag with two or more compartments that can be filled and sealed independently having been chosen as one of the show’s top 10 innovations.
The multi-compartment bag featured in the Innovations Showcase at the show at the NEC, Birmingham, having impressed the judging panel.
Simon Balderson, Sirane MD, said: “This new format for our already-popular steam-cooking bag is great for retailers – and it was great to receive recognition from the show’s judging team, who chose it as one of the top 10 innovations.
“The format allows two (or more) compartments of the bag – which can be cooked in the oven or in a microwave - to be filled separately and sealed separately. There’s no contamination from one compartment to the next, and they don’t even need to be filled and sealed at the same time, or in the same production facility.
“Of course, they can be filled at the same time – over the counter you could add fish with a marinade in one side, and vegetables in the other, making the perfect ‘over-the-counter’ ready meal. One of the benefits of this bag format is its versatility.”
