SIRANE’S steam-cooking bag for oven or microwave with two or more compartments that can be filled and sealed independently has been placed in the top 10 innovations at the forthcoming Packaging Innovations Show.
The multi-compartment bag will feature in the Innovations Showcase at the show at the NEC, Birmingham, later this month, having impressed the judging panel.
Simon Balderson, Sirane MD, said: “This new format is great for retailers – and it’s great to receive recognition from the judges who chose it as one of the top 10 innovations.
“The format allows two (or more) compartments of the bag to be filled separately – and sealed separately. There’s no contamination from one compartment to the next, and they don’t even need to be filled and sealed at the same time, or in the same production facility.
“Of course they can be filled at the same time – over the counter you could add fish with a marinade in one side, and vegetables in the other, making the perfect ‘over-the-counter’ ready meal. One of the benefits of this bag format is its versatility.
“There’s also possibilities for pre-packed meals where fish, for example, is added on one site, that half of the bag is sealed, and then the vegetables added elsewhere and sealed.
“Whether it’s for production reasons or to keep the food separate, because the contents need different cooking times or just because it looks more visually appealing, there’s lots of reasons why a cooking bag like this might be the answer to your problems.
“It’s possible to supply the two compartments with a tear-off perforation, allowing them to be separated by the consumer – different cooking times are no problem, or if the customer wants to cook one in the oven and one in the microwave there’s no problem.”
Sirane will be cooking up a storm at the NEC as we present our popular oven and microwave-ready food packaging solutions at this year’s Packaging Innovations show – and the multi-compartment bag is just one a range of cooking bags on offer.
From steam-cooking bags for the oven or microwave or BBQ bags to nylon roasting bags, multi-compartment bags to stand-up bags, Sirane has a varied range of options.
Jeremy Haydn-Davies, sales director, said: “Cook-in packaging is popular with both the retailers and the consumers, and Sirane has flexible solutions which will allow you to make use of the technology on offer and make it fit without your own supply chain.
“The multi-compartment steam-cooking bag in the innovations gallery is the latest in a list of products we’ve developed over the years where the packaging can be cooked.
“Whether you’re looking for processors to pack or pack in store, over the counter bags or even bags individually-wrapped for use in meal kits, we have numerous options. Recent additions include steam-cooking bags in a stand-up format, ideal for retail presentation.
“We’ve also got our flavoured cooking bags – oven/BBQ bags where flavoured wood chip sachets allow the food to be gently smoked and flavoured during the cooking process.”
We’ll also be focusing on absorbency and absorbent food packaging; Sirane has a range of absorbent pads for all types of products, including meat, poultry, seafood and fish. Pads available include anti-microbial, anti-bacterial, compostable and ovenable.
Jeremy Haydn-Davies added: “Absorbency is, and always will be, a core part of our business and our expertise – and we’ll be giving it some of our focus at the NEC. We have a wide range of absorbent products available, and the flexibility to make the product with the absorbency you actually need in the size that you actually need it to fit with your packaging.
“And don’t forget, Sirane is a packaging development company, so if you’re interested in finding a solution to a particular problem in your supply chain, and you think we might be able to help, this could be a good opportunity to find out more about Sirane.
“At Sirane we thrive on a challenge, and we’re always looking for problems to solve. We’ve brought a number of products to market over the last few years that began in this way, including our odour-absorbent pads for vac-packed meat and cushioned fruit pads.”
Packaging Innovations takes place at the NEC, Birmingham, from February 28-March 1, 2018. Sirane’s stand can be found at E11 – right next to the Eco-Pack Theatre.
