Ludlow Food Festival is next Thinking-Cooking stop

Thinking-Cooking – the new retail range from innovative Shopshire-based food packaging company Sirane – will have a stand at the Ludlow Food Festival on Sunday, September 15th.

Top quality steam cooking bags for the oven or microwave, fresh produce bags offering impressive shelf-life extension and slow-cooker liners will be among the range on sale.

The Thinking-Cooking range has been developed by Telford-based food packaging development company Sirane Ltd to allow home users to buy quality innovative cooking products direct, and to allow smaller retailers to easily add value to their sales.

The range features the popular Si-bag Meal-Maker – which has been sold direct to the public for a while – alongside the Baby & Toddler Meal-Pouch, Fat-Trap, Roasting Bags, Potato-Bakers, Shelf-Life Bags, Deli-Bags, and Slow-Cooker Liners.

“The Ludlow Spring Festival was our first foray into the food festival world, and we found the public were very receptive to our products,” said Jeremy Haydn-Davies, sales director.

“We’re returning for the September Food Festival and are very much looking forward to it.”

All Thinking-Cooking items either reduce cooking times, cleaning times, or the amount of food thrown out, as well as allowing for healthier food in a simple, convenient way.

“Thinking-Cooking has brought to the kitchen table a number of items which will truly make people’s life easier,” said Jeremy. “People will wonder how they ever managed without.”

“This range of products is about convenience, simplicity, taste and cutting waste. Whether it is cutting energy bills because your oven is on for an hour less, or cutting down on the washing up, Thinking-Cooking has thought about what will help.

“People lead busy lives, but still want good food. Money is tight in many families, so they want food to last. Thinking-Cooking has looked at problems and found solutions.

“They are also healthy solutions, cooking bags for example help significantly with portion control, Fat-Traps will reduce the amount of fat with items such as sausages.

“Steam cooking can also be a requirement for medical reasons, but being able to find a cooking bag that will still leave the user with a tasty meal has not always been easy.

“Steam cooking can be just as tasty – if not tastier – than other methods of cooking. With fresh fish, for example, people often don’t know what to do with it. But popping it in a steam cooking bag with a simple sauce, for example, can be the best way to cook it.

“We’ll also soon be adding a new product to the range – a barbecue bag which allows meat, poultry, seafood or vegetables to be sold with a marinade or sauce in a bag that the customer can throw straight on the barbecue – or in the oven if the weather turns.”

Shelf-life bags proved very popular at the Spring Festival, with customers attracted by the potential to make their fruit and vegetables last much longer than before.

“The bags are 100% compostable, 100% natural and 100% effective,” said Jeremy. “Their natural properties will enhance the shelf-life of fruit, vegetables and even herbs.

“Tomatoes can last as much as seven days longer, the same with mushrooms. Green beans have been known to last weeks in these bags. They truly are a remarkable product.”

Innovative fruit packaging on show at Fruit Focus

Sirane's innovative fruit packaging solutions will be on show later this week when the British fruit industry converges on Kent for the annual Fruit Focus event.

Fruit Focus is held in East Malling, Kent, at the fruit research centre. It brings together 1,200 growers and industry professionals, showcasing all aspects of the fruit trade - from pre-harvest through to on-the-shelf - and allows people to showcase the latest innovations, technologies and developments.

"However much you invest in getting the perfect fruit," said Jeremy Haydn-Davies, sales director, "it is the packaging that will determine the condition that your product arrives with the consumer in. Sirane's packaging solutions can make a huge difference to the shelf-life of fruit.

"Sirane's worked hard on a number of innovative packaging technologies - and we've listened to customers' need to determine what will make a difference. All our packaging solutions have been developed based on the actual needs of companies in the fruit business - so we've solved actual problems, not just created products.

"We're on Stand 70 at Fruit Focus - if you want to find out more about any of our products, come find us."

Sirane offers a number of packaging solutions perfect for the fruit trade – including the highly innovative new absorbent ‘bubble’ pad Dri-Fresh Resolve Soft-hold.

Dri-fresh Resolve Soft-hold fruit cushioning pads – which were launched earlier this year at Fruit Logistica in Berlin -  are ‘absorbent bubble pads’ combining the cushioning and protective properties of bubble films with effective absorbency, high permeability and excellent presentation.

“Fully compostable and available in various colours and sizes, Dri-fresh Resolve ‘Soft-hold’ is the perfect product for soft fruit protection,” said Jeremy. “Like all Dri-fresh Resolve pads, Safe-hold is available with integrated ethylene absorbing and anti-fungal properties for extending shelf-life in all applications.

“Soft-hold has been developed with distributors and retailers in mind, with an eye on the needs of the companies involved. Our customers have been telling us they want pads that offer more protection for the fruit, that extend shelf-life, and that are compostable.

“Soft-hold ticks all the boxes, and the feedback so far has been incredibly positive. It combines everything into one great product, with the cushioned layer offering that final level of protection that no other product on the market has managed.”

Dri-Fresh Soft-hold complements an already impressive list of products perfect for transporting or selling fresh produce, including Dri-Fresh Resolve, Dri-Fresh Fresh-Hold pads and our incredible shelf-life extending film and bags, Sira-Flex Resolve.

The whole Sirane fruit packaging range will be on show at the Fruit Focus event.

“The concept of our fresh produce range is simple,” added Jeremy, “We want customers’ fruit or vegetables to arrive with their ultimate customer in the best possible condition. For this they need the ultimate protection – and our range of products offers that.”

Also on show will be Sira-Flex Resolve - a film with incredible shelf-life extending properties which has caused a bit of a stir worldwide. The film, also available in a bag format, has been shown to add five days or more additional shelf-life to some fresh produce.

Sira-Flex Resolve is made from a natural bio-polymer – so is fully bio-degradable. The film’s astonishing qualities mean it self-regulates the conditions inside the pack. The perfect atmosphere is maintained inside even if the storage temperature is variable.

The film could lead to far less produce being thrown away by customers and retailers. Sirane MD Simon Balderson said: “Shelf-life extension is the holy grail for a large fruit and vegetable industry. A huge amount of produce is wasted because it goes off before it is eaten.

“Using this film could reduce the amount of food waste and significantly reduce costs. We can also make it more likely that the consumer will get a quality product in good condition.”

Mr Balderson said the new technology has broken new ground – food will not dry out, there will be no ‘fogging’ within the pack, and no mould or bacteria growth.

Fruit Focus is held in East Malling, Kent, on Wednesday, July 24th. Email or call +44 1952 230055 for an appointment. Sirane can be found at Stand 70.
