Sirane incredibly busy at the European Seafood Expo

Sira-Cook Supreme - one of Sirane's innovations that went down well at the European Seafood Expo

INNOVATION drew in the crowds as Sirane enjoyed one of its busiest ever trade shows at the recent European Seafood Expo in Brussels.

Value-added food packaging solutions including microwaveable steam cooking bags, absorbent salmon boards and bags suitable for a barbecue created a huge stir.

Jeremy Haydn-Davies, director of sales for food packaging, said: “The Brussels show was incredible. We often had potential customers queuing up to come and talk.

“Our cooking bag solutions, absorbent liners for transportation and absorbent salmon boards in particular were proving very popular with visitors to the stand.”

One product that really created a buzz was the new Sira-CookTM SupremeTM cooking bag.

Simon Balderson, Sirane managing director, said: “Our new Sira-CookTM SupremeTM cooking bag has so many potential uses – and offers numerous advantages to users.

“It is a foil bag capable of withstanding significant direct heat, allowing for its use on a barbecue as well as in an oven. The food will be tender, retain all the juices and flavours as well as the goodness, and could be sold over the counter in the pack.

“For the customer there would be no mess, no smell, and no need to handle the food. The bag can be heat-sealed or folded over, and add genuine value to retail food sales.”

The Sira-CookTM SupemeTM bag is the latest in a line of innovative cooking bag solutions from Sirane – Europe’s leading packaging development-to-manufacture company – and some of the company’s other cooking bag solutions also proved to be very popular.

Other recent innovations include the Si-bagTM – an oven or microwave bag which can be sealed over the counter, becoming odour proof and leak proof. The bag steam cooks seafood in its own juices in a matter of minutes, and sauces and glazes can be added.

Also popular was the Sira-CookTM Smart-ReleaseTM – a dual-compartment bag for microwave cooking, allowing the product and sauce to be kept separate. Seals open only at a fixed temperature during cooking, allowing for a perfect infusion of seafood and sauce.

Sirane’s absorbent liners for transporting fish – a range that was recently expanded thanks to a new machine significantly speeding up and streamlining the production process – were equally popular.  The Dri-Fresh® Sea-FreshTM range of absorbent liners quickly and effectively absorbs the melting ice and juices released during transportation. The liquid is absorbed and trapped inside the Sea-Fresh liner to prevent spillage and reduce odour.

The machine – designed and built by Sirane’s in-house engineering team – will allow for far greater flexibility in the range, with almost any size or absorbency now available.

Ian Beardsall, director of product & process development: “Our new machine for Sea-FreshTM liners will make us very competitive. With this new pricing, combined with our reputation for quality absorbent products, I’m not surprised there was a high level of interest.

“Sea-Fresh liners are terrific for lining crates of fish, soaking up large amounts of water and fluid from the crates, meaning it arrives at the destination in a much better state.

“The cold crate packed with seafood will remain cold and dry, optimising the condition and appearance – and in many cases the value or saleability - of the fish.”

Healthy eating and fast food combined for fish counters

A cooking bag allowing fish counters to easily offer a healthier alternative alongside their existing range is available from Sirane.

If you’re looking for a way to offer fish full of flavour and cooked quickly in a healthy way, Sirane’s Si-bag™ could be something that would benefit both you and your profits.

Glazes or even sauces can be added to the bag, allowing you to get creative with your over-the-counter fish sales, and easily expand your range – attracting new customers.

The Si-bag™ is a cook-in bag designed to be used safely in a conventional oven up to 200 degrees celsius, in a microwave - and even in a freezer for subsequent reheating and eating.

Jeremy Haydn-Davies, sales director for food packaging, said: “A beautifully cooked fillet of fish could be ready and served to the customer in a matter of minutes.

“But the bag can be more used for whole meals – a whole seafood-based meal could be cooked in minutes – as well as for accompaniments such as asparagus or new potatoes. The bag could allow customers to choose from a new healthier menu.

“This could be a terrific solution for anyone selling cooked fish over the counter. Not only is the fish cooked beautifully, but this is a very healthy way of cooking seafood.

“Simple cooking and straight-to oven or microwave food doesn’t have to sacrifice on flavours. Most premises will already have a microwave, so this could be perfect.

“The Si-bag™ keeps all the flavours, it allows people to cook quickly and easily. Fast food has a reputation for being unhealthy, but healthy eating and fast food can be combined.”

All of the natural flavours of the contents – be it meat, fish or vegetables - are sealed in the bag during cooking, creating a sensational and healthy meal.

The Si-bag™ has been developed by Sirane’s engineers and scientists. It is a bag made from very high temperature resistant film, which combines practicality with simplicity. The meal is sealed in using a fold-over flap and the bag becomes odour and leak-proof.

Simon Balderson, Sirane’s MD, said: “The Si-bag™ is not only perfect for home users wanting to create a simple yet tasty meal, but also for retailers wanting to sell hot food. A fish and chip shop, for example, could use the bag to offer a healthy option.”

Just pop it in the oven to cook... it's that easy! Flavoured butters and glazes can be added. The result is superb tasting, succulent food, cooked in its own juices and added jus.

International packaging design, development and manufacturing company Sirane has added the Si-bag™ to its retail range Thinking-Cooking under the name Si-bag™ Meal-Maker.
