SHOW: Sirane MD speaking in seminar theatre at Restaurant & Takeaway Innovation Expo

SUSTAINABLE packaging will come under the spotlight as Sirane MD Simon Balderson speaks in the lecture theatre at the Restaurant & Takeaway Innovation Expo 2018.

Packaging has been in the news in the last year, especially plastics and the role it plays within the food industry, and Simon will be asking ‘what’s possible and what’s just impossible?’

Simon Balderson said: “There’s been a lot said on this subject in the last few months. Packaging is changing. Attitudes are changing and changing fast. People want packaging to be recyclable, sustainable, and/or compostable. They don’t want plastic, but plastic has traditionally been used for a reason. But are people asking for the impossible? What solutions are out there as eco-friendly packaging and what more can be done?

“Is it as easy as just saying ‘we don’t want plastics?’ In some case yes, in some cases they’ll have to pay more for more environmentally-friendly solutions, and in some cases no.

“At Sirane we’re working on expanding on Earth Packaging range… and we’re working on the assumption that not all plastic is bad. If plastics can easily and effectively be recycled, they may well still have their place in the packaging options and be the best solution.”

Simon will be speaking in Theatre 13 on Tuesday, September 25th, from 3.30pm to 4pm.

The Restaurant & Takeaway Expo 2018 takes place at the ExCeL arena, London, from September 25-26 – and it will be Sirane’s first time exhibiting at the show.

We’ll have a range of products on our stand, including thermally-insulated bags, cooking bags, microwave susceptor products, absorbent rotisserie liners and catering liners.

Sirane’s thermally-insulated materials keep chilled food cold – but perhaps crucially for this show they also keep hot food hot – and we can offer bags in a range of sizes. Bags can be digitally-printed, allowing for short runs without the need for set-up costs.

Simon Balderson, Sirane MD, said: “Keep It Hot…. that will be our message at the show. Take-aways are as popular as ever, and customers want the food to still be hot by the time they get home. These bags are a great way of making sure that happens.

“We’re also introducing an ‘off-the-shelf’ bag under our Keep It Hot brand, customers will be able to buy online from stock – making it a perfect take-out solution. However, we anticipate a lot of customer will want their own brand on the bag – and it does make sense.

“They’re great for brand awareness as they are reusable – you could even offer a discount to customers re-using ‘your bag’, and this product is also fully recyclable, and we can even supply it made from a material in which up to 40% of the material has been replaced by recycled materials and sea-shells… so it’s an environmentally-friendly solution.”

Used by supermarket shoppers and small independent food outlets alike, they are a reusable bag ideal for transporting fresh good home, delivery services, marketing and promotion - with many people opting for their own bespoke ‘branded’ bag.

Simon Balderson, Sirane MD, said: “The Restaurant & Takeaway Expo is a show we’ve visited and thought for a few years might be a good way into a new market. We’ve got lots of products perfect for this sector, and it’s a great opportunity for Sirane.

“We’ve also got a range of other solutions from within our wider food packaging portfolio – and of course we’re also a development company, so anyone in the restaurant & takeaway sector with product ideas, you’d be made very welcome on the stand.”

Sirane’s food packaging range also offers a number of other products which should be well-received at the show – and many of which won’t have been seen there before.

Jeremy Haydn-Davies, sales director, said: “Our susceptor-based products allow food to be crisped up in a microwave, which is perfect for anyone wanting to add pizza slices, paninis etc. without having to keep warm – they can just heat them quickly as required.

“We also offer a wide-range of steam-cooking bags, which may well have a place in both the restaurant and takeaway sectors, due to their flexible uses. We have nylon roasting bags which could be popular in restaurants, and this really is just a snap-shot.

“We also have absorbent rotisserie liners – perfect for lining rotisseries as well as other hot-food display areas – cutting down on the mess and helping to improve presentation. So, all in all, Sirane’s stand is going to be well worth a visit if you’re visiting the show.”

OVERSEAS: Meat industry will be a target at NZ trade show

NEW ZEALAND’s meat industry will be a target for a new company formed solely to distribute Sirane’s packaging solutions in the region at a trade show later this month.

aDeo is a newly formed company, started by Chris Brent, who said the primary reason for creating the business was to offer Sirane the support it deserves in New Zealand.

They will exhibit at Foodtech/Packtech in Auckland – the country’s main food industry and packaging show – where he will be supported by Sirane sales director Jeremy Haydn-Davies.

“Meat is big business in New Zealand”, said Chris, “and the country is famous for the quality of meat exports, such as New Zealand lamb, which is shipped all around the globe.

“Sirane has some great products for the meat industry, offering as they do a varied range of absorbent meat pads, anti-microbial pads, and ovenable packaging solutions. I am really looking forward to introducing them to the market at the forthcoming show.

“After seeing the innovation and diversity of the product range Sirane has, coupled with the contacts I have made over the last 12 years working in the packaging industry, it was mutually beneficial to create aDeo and become an agent for Sirane.

“Unlike other companies that will just add Sirane products to a list of others for which they are agents, I have made the strategic decision to make Sirane aDeo’s only agency, and I am looking forward to getting started and meeting contacts old and new.”

Chris said he plans for aDeo to become not just a product specialist, but an industry specialist company, focusing on industries which can benefit from Sirane products, which includes most forms of processing plants related to meats, fruits and vegetables to name just a few of the many opportunities. aDeo will become heavily involved in these businesses, understanding their individual and specific needs, and developing solutions.

“Our goal is to educate the customer about the added benefit that will be gained by investing in Sirane’s products,” said Chris, “and this show is very much the beginning.”

Foodtech/Packtech is in Auckland from September 18-20. The Sirane/Adeo stand can be found on Stand 89 – show information can be found at
