New Sirane agent/distributor added in Ghana

Aktif .

A new agent/distributor has been added to the growing Sirane network, with Issa Arafat Company Ltd covering the West African country of Ghana. Issa Arafat Company Ltd cover the whole food packaging spectrum, including meat, seafood, poultry and fresh produce, and are based in the capital Accra.

Sirane's international network is growing fast - and we're now actively seeking other companies who want to be a part of it.

In the last 12 months Sirane has opened an additional manufacturing facility in Turkey, offices and warehousing in South Africa and offices in Dubai. In addition we have significantly grown our network of agents and distributors, with nearly all continents now covered by at least one representative.

Simon Balderson, Sirane MD, said: "It's been a very busy 2013, and we've added some excellent agents and distributors to our international network who are already reaping the rewards themselves of being able to market our products in their regions - so it's a win-win situation for both them and us.

"Many of Sirane's innovative products have worldwide potential. Although there's regional variations within the industry, a lot of the problems encountered are the same - and so our solutions will be just as well received. Shelf-life, good product presentation and innovative cooking solutions are going to be popular globally.

"I am sure Brenya Abdu-Rauf and the Issa Arafat Company Ltd will be a great addition to the Sirane network.

"We've a few companies about to begin as agents/distributors who will be added to our site very soon - watch this space - so things are changing all the time. If you think you could be the next recruit, take a look around our website, and if you like the potential in what you see, please get in touch."

Although we'd be happy to hear from all four corners of the globe, Sirane is particularly interested to hear from anyone in Eastern Europe, Scandinavia, Asia and South America. For more information, email sales@sirane.com or contact our office in the UK on +44 1952 230055.

Sirane welcomes report backing compostable packaging

Sira-Flex Resolve - compostable packaging for fresh produce

Innovative UK-based food packaging solutions company Sirane has welcomed a report revealing that compostable packaging is set to have a big impact during 2013.

A poll conducted by Packaging News and organisers of the PPMA Show found that compostable packaging will have a big impact on the sector in the next 12 months

The poll asked respondents which new technology would have the most impact on the packaging and processing machinery sector over the next 12 months. A total of 53% of readers said that compostable packaging would have the most impact.

Sirane offers a number of compostable packaging options, including absorbent pads for meat, fish and fruit, shelf-life extending bags, flower pouches and much more.

Simon Balderson, managing director, said: “Wherever possible Sirane already makes these items fully compostable. It is important that in a world where so much is already thrown away, we don’t add to it needlessly. Any firm looking for a cost-effective compostable packaging solution should come to Sirane and ask for our help.

"Sirane is a packaging solutions company, and that includes finding environmentally-friendly solutions wherever possible."

PPMA chief executive Chris Buxton told Packaging News:  “The research provides a key insight into the trends that are set to influence the industry in the coming months. For example, manufacturers are acknowledging that consumers are cutting back on what they spend with the same expectation for quality and consistency.

“This means that suppliers are in turn seeking to reduce their costs as the market will not tolerate increased price to the customer. Suppliers must now turn to innovation to achieve this, a fact that ultimately presents an opportunity for forward thinking companies.”

Mr Buxton added: “Given the increased awareness of all things environmental, it’s also not surprising to see that many people feel compostable packaging will be one of the innovations that stands to make a significant impact in the coming year.”

Sirane support for Love Food Hate Waste campaign

Aktif .

Love Food Hate Waste  Love Food Hate Waste

Sirane is proud to support WRAP's Love Food Hate Waste campaign - a campaign launched in 2007 by WRAP to help UK households recognise and tackle food waste.

Since its launch, millions of people have responded, saving around £1.5 billion worth of food.

The programme launch brought the issue of food waste to the fore - around 8 million tonnes of food and drink wasted per year, around £12 billion cost to households and the environmental consequences.

Love Food Hate Waste works with retailers and brands, local authorities, businesses, community and campaign groups to help promote the LFHW message by providing resources such as well-researched tips, recipes, messages, creatives and consumer insights.

Retailers and brands have already helped their customers reduce food waste, for example Sainsbury’s ‘Love Your Leftovers’ and Morrison’s ‘Great Taste Less Waste’ campaigns, the introduction of improved labelling (removing ‘display until’ dates from their products), pack sizes that are better suited to today’s households and promotions that give consumers more flexibility to use up the food they buy.

Sirane has always been keen to do its bit to help reduce waste throughout the supply chain. From odour-absorbing pads which have cut wastage in vac-packed meat though to shelf-life extending bags and films, Sirane constantly innovates to help suppliers, retailers and consumers reduce their food waste. Our Dri-Fresh range includes absorbent solutions to help with shelf-life extension right through the supply chain, while our Sira-Flex range offers packaging solutions for enhancing freshness.

The issue of food and drink waste has moved up the UK political and social agenda in recent years, spurred on by research which WRAP has carried out into the amount and types of food and drink wasted.

Research suggests that in the UK as a whole we waste approximately 11 million tonnes of food per year. Householders are responsible for around 7.2 million tonnes and the food and drink supply chain wastes at least 3 million tonnes*.

Approximately two-thirds of all food and drink waste is avoidable - food and drink that was edible at some point prior to being thrown away (for example a slice of bread, an apple or a slice of ham). The remaining third is split equally between possibly avoidable - food and drink that some people eat and others do not (for example bread crusts and potato skins) and unavoidable food waste.

If reducing food waste is something your company is keen to play a part in, Sirane could help you fulfill your targets. For more information, contact sales@sirane.com or call +44 1952 230055

Sirane expands with new Turkish operation

Aktif .

Sirane has significantly strengthened its global presence with the opening of Sirane Turkey.

Just over 10 years after first opening in Telford, Shropshire, Sirane has opened a second operation in Antalya, a thriving port city on Turkey’s southern coast.

Sirane managing director Simon Balderson said: “Turkey has a large population and a large food industry so it is the perfect location for Sirane to open a new base.

“It will help Sirane push into Turkey, the Middle East, North Africa and north into Russia and the Ukraine. Antalya’s location as a Mediterranean port close to some of the country’s most fertile food production areas is perfect for us.

“Some of our key markets – meat, fruit and vegetables – are also key markets in Turkey, with vast quantities of food being produced and shipped around the region.

“Recent innovations, such as our shelf-life extending bags and films, absorbent fruit pads and odour absorbing meat pads, are all products that should be perfect for this region.

“But we’re also looking to introduce other innovations, such as our range of cooking bags, to a whole new market. We’re very excited about the possibilities in the region.”

The Turkish operation is based in a purpose-built site in the Antalya Organised Zone at Döşemealtı. Sirane Turkey’s operation will eventually replicate that of the UK, offering not only manufacturing but a high level of design and innovation.

Sirane Turkey’s managing director is Taşkın Öztaş. He said: “I am delighted Sirane Turkey has now begun trading. We have now taken on sales staff, and are looking forward to taking Sirane’s innovative food packaging products to new markets.

“Turkey is very proud of its huge food production industry, and Sirane can help Turkish companies export further and further afield with confidence, as well as helping establish the company in regions where Sirane is currently not doing business.

“Sirane Turkey will work wherever possible with suppliers in Turkey, and recruit staff locally, so we’re also looking forward to making a difference to the local economy.”

Sirane Turkey opened less than a month after Sirane Southern Africa began trading.

Sirane Southern Africa is based in Cape Town, South Africa, and will look to open a manufacturing and warehousing facility in the region at the first available opportunity.

Sirane Southern Africa will help make it far easier for customers to order Sirane products, as the company will have dealt with all the region’s import regulations. It will also help push Sirane’s presence into the larger nations of central Africa.

Sirane Middle East has also opened a new office in Dubai, on the Jebel Ali Free Zone. It will be a co-ordination hub, handling sales, logistics, licences and permits for the region.

These are all key markets for Sirane. Sirane Turkey offers access to Russia and North Africa, while Sirane Middle East will allow the company to push deep into Asia.

Sirane is a highly innovative packaging product development-to-manufacture company based in Telford, Shropshire. It has four divisions: food packaging; medical and healthcare; industrial and horticultural. Specialisms include absorbency and cooking bags.
